Nova Credit Review 2026: Move Your Credit to the US

Nova Credit lets a newcomer's home-country credit count with US lenders via its Credit Passport. It is real and useful, but not a card and builds no US score.

What Nova Credit is

A data company

Not a card, not a lender, not a credit builder. It translates foreign credit for US lenders.

Cost to you

Usually $0

The lender pays. Any consumer charge is typically a one-time fee of $50 or less, and it is not published on Nova's own site.

How Nova Credit moves your credit to the US

It is a translation used once at application, not a US score you keep.

  1. Find a lender that uses Nova Credit

You cannot sign up with Nova directly, and that surprises people. Nova is infrastructure. You apply with a partner that offers a Nova-powered application, a card issuer, a lender, or a property manager.

  2. Consent and connect your home-country credit

During that application you enter your home-country details and give consent. Nova pulls your foreign bureau file, the record you already built before moving.

  3. Nova translates it into a US-equivalent

The Credit Passport converts your foreign report into a US-local score, tradelines, and risk attributes the US lender can actually read and score.

  4. The lender decides

They underwrite you off that translation, so a newcomer can get approved on day one instead of waiting months to become scorable from scratch.

  5. Your US file starts only now

The translation is used once, at application. It does not report to the three US bureaus. Your real US credit history begins when you open and use that account.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Nova Credit legit?

Yes. Nova Credit is a real, established company founded in 2016 and based in San Francisco. Its Credit Passport is used by major lenders and brands including HSBC, SoFi, Verizon, and Yardi to read a newcomer's foreign credit history. It is legitimate. The thing to understand is what it is: a business-to-business data company, not a card, not a lender, and not a credit-building app you sign up for directly.

What is Nova Credit and how does it work?

Nova Credit is cross-border credit infrastructure. Its product, the Credit Passport, translates your home-country credit report into a US-equivalent score, tradelines, and risk attributes that a US lender can read at the moment you apply. You do not sign up with Nova. You apply with a partner lender that offers a Nova-powered application, consent to share your foreign file, and Nova translates it so the lender can underwrite you.

Does Nova Credit build my US credit score?

No, and this is the most important thing to get right. Credit Passport is used once, by one lender, at application time. It does not report to Experian, Equifax, or TransUnion, and it does not give you a standalone US credit file you keep and reuse. It helps you get approved. Your actual US credit history only starts once you open and use that US account.

Can I use Nova Credit to get an American Express card with no SSN?

Not anymore. That path is closed. American Express began requiring a Social Security number or ITIN from every US consumer credit applicant on August 28, 2023, which ended the old Nova-powered no-SSN Amex flow. Nova Credit the company is still active with many other partners, but the specific 'get an Amex with no SSN' route people still write about is no longer available.

How much does Nova Credit cost?

Usually nothing to you, because the lender pays for the Credit Passport. When a consumer is charged at all, it is typically a one-time fee of $50 or less. Nova does not publish a consumer price on its own site, since it is a business-to-business product, so confirm any fee with the lender you are applying through.

Nova Credit vs Credit Booster AI: what is the difference?

They do not compete, they sit at different points in your timeline. Nova Credit helps a newcomer get approved on day one by making foreign credit count. Credit Booster AI works on the US file you build afterward: it scans all three bureaus, flags likely errors, drafts the paperwork to challenge them, and reports rent and bills to add history, for $9.99 a month. Nova opens the door. Credit Booster AI keeps the room clean.
